Additional support
The £1200 is a maximum allocation for short breaks for the year. Families with children with severe and profound needs can request a Children’s and Family assessment seeking additional support.
If the assessment indicates that you require any additional support this will be funded through social care separately from short breaks. If you have had an assessment before, we can offer you a review to consider your child and family’s needs and how these could be met.
Requesting an assessment of needs
You can make a referral for an assessment of your child’s needs via the Barnet Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH), (scroll down the page to the Universal Plus Referral Pathway), by email mash@barnet.gov.uk or calling 020 8359 4066.
You can make a referral yourself and do not need another professional to do this for you (although that is possible too).
Your request will then be directed to the appropriate service.
Once a referral has been made, the MASH team will contact The Disability Service to check if your child and family are likely to meet our eligibility criteria. You may need to provide information that confirms details about your child's disability from your GP or another professional.
Once we have this information, we will complete an assessment to ascertain your needs. This will allow us to make recommendations on support and help for your child and the family. If it is concluded that your child is not eligible for further support from social care, we will try to direct you to other services that may be able to help you.
Referrals for young people over 18 are usually made via Barnet Social Care Direct 020 8359 5000 or email socialcaredirect@barnet.gov.uk
