It is divided into four bands to help people understand the risks: Low, Moderate, High and Very High.
Air pollution in London does not reach levels high enough for most people to make major changes to their habits to avoid exposure, such as staying indoors.
Some people with existing respiratory conditions may need to moderate outdoor and physical activity on days with high pollution levels.
