Wasps
The common wasp is about 12-17mm in size, has a black and yellow striped body with a narrow waist.
Wasps build nests with a combination of wood pulp and saliva. Nests start off small and they can reach sizes larger than a football. Nests are usually built in sheltered areas with easy access to the outside.
Wasp nests can be found in:
- roof spaces
- wall cavities
- under eaves
- sheds
- garages and bird boxes
Wasps can become a nuisance and will become aggressive and repeatedly sting if they are disturbed.

Treatment of wasps
Preparations before treatment
Try to identify the entry point and or location of the nest within the property, watch the wasps flying and see where they return to. Do not put yourself at risk by approaching the nest. Don’t worry if you can’t find the nest, we will do that as part of our assessment.
What we will do during the treatment
At the point of entry or as close to the nest, a powder insecticide will be used to kill the wasps.
After treatment
Wasps can become confused and agitated stay away from the area for at least 1 hour after treatment and allow a minimum of 24 to 48 hours after treatment for the wasps to die.
We don’t usually remove nests, but we can offer the service at an additional cost once the nest is free of wasps.
You will get a report of the work we have done with guidance and advice on what you need to do after the treatment.
