If you live, work or study in Barnet, and you are a smoker who is aged 12 and over, there are free and confidential one-to-one support programmes across the borough to help. The service is also suitable for people who smoke shisha
Barnet has a range of local stop smoking service providers including GP surgeries (ODT 75KB) and pharmacies (ODT 78KB). You can contact any of the listed pharmacies by telephone or online, but if you would like to use a GP surgery service, you must be registered as a patient at that practice. You do not need a referral to access the services.

Treatment
You will receive up to 6 weeks of free behavioural support with your advisor, you may have to pay for any prescriptions you might need. We can offer you advice on the most cost-effective way to get the medication that you require.
The stop smoking advisor will:
- discuss the treatment options with you
- advise you on a range of replacement therapy, medications and e-cigarettes
- support you to set a quit date and agree treatment options
- offer you regular telephone consultations to discuss your progress
- work with you to overcome any challenges fighting cravings and help you to remain 100% smoke free

We have partnered up with a leading mobile phone application provider, Smoke Free
The Smoke Free service includes lots of stop smoking techniques and hosts chats with accredited advisors.
You will still need gain access to medications via a provider pharmacy or GP surgery, alternatively you can self-fund these or buy a vape.

Nicotine vaping
Vaping products provide nicotine without the harmful chemicals from cigarette smoke, in a similar way to nicotine replacement therapies like patches, gum or sprays. They are also known as e-cigarettes or vapes.
A recent government review found evidence that vaping poses only a small fraction of the risk of smoking. You can check the evidence about vaping and find out more about using e-cigarettes
Vaping products aren't currently available on prescription from the stop smoking service. If you would like to use them, we fully support the use of them in your quit attempt as they provide nicotine and behavioural support for you while you quit the cigarettes.

It is important to always buy vaping products from reputable retailers. You can search the Find a Vape shop website for shops in your area.
London-wide stop smoking support
Stop Smoking London provides a dedicated telephone service for Londoners who want to stop smoking. You can call 0300 123 1044 to speak to a trained advisor. The service is open 7 days a week at the following times:
- Monday to Friday, 9am to 8pm
- Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 4pm
Medications won't be available from this service so you will need to source them yourself.
Stop Smoking London also offer a motivational text messaging service to Barnet residents. You can sign up on their website to receive daily texts with tips and encouragement for your stop smoking journey.
