Barnet’s brand-new summer read
Saturday 5 July to Saturday 6 September 2025
This year, we introduce ‘Barnet Book Detectives’, a great way to keep children reading over the summer holidays.
Something strange is happening around Barnet. Books are disappearing and a mysterious Book Crook is on the loose. They love to read but want all the books for themselves and won’t share! Join the ‘Barnet Book Detectives’ and help Detective Woof pick up the scent.
Children aged 4 -11 will EmBARK on a reading journey, helping the detectives chase the Book Crook, who has been leaving clues at libraries and locations around Barnet.
For every book they read, children will get a special pawprint stamp in their Reading Journal and will receive clues from library staff to help reveal the identity of the culprit.
By reading 6 books over the summer, children will help the Book Detectives identify the culprit and solve the mystery. They will receive a certificate and other rewards and will be entered into a very special prize draw when they finish.
Children can read any books they like – from chapter books, comics or even information books. They can also read eBooks or comics on our Libby app or listen to eAudiobooks on our BorrowBox app.
Join us this summer and help the Barnet Book Detectives unlock the mystery and discover who the Book Crook is…
