Report a pothole or damage to the road or pavement

If you have spotted a pothole or damage on a road or pavement in Barnet, you can report it here.

The issues you can report are: 

  • road damage 
  • road pothole 
  • pavement damage (e.g. damage to a dropped kerb) 
  • pavement pothole 

If you think the pothole or road damage might be urgent call 020 8359 2000. Other reports are usually investigated within 10 working days.

You will need

We will ask you: 

  • to pinpoint the location of the pothole or road damage on a map: you will be able to see if the damage has already been reported
  • to estimate of the size of the pothole or road damage: defects must usually be more than 40mm deep (road) and 25mm deep (pavement) for the inspector to recommend that work is carried out 
  • for your details, so we can keep you updated about the repair
  • for a photo, if you have one: this helps us understand the problem and plan repairs

Report a pothole or damage

There are some roads that we are not responsible for. These include:

  • M1
  • A406 (North Circular)
  • A41

These roads are the responsibility of National Highways.


Private roads are the responsibility of their owners.

After you've made the report

  • we will inspect it 
  • if you provide us with an email address, we will let you know the outcome of the inspection within 10 working days
