Planning application Local Requirements: Guidance notes for documents

Find out more about the documents and information that are required for applications for planning permission.

Paper applications

For paper submissions, you should include an original plus 3 copies of all forms, plans and documents.

All plans should:

  • be A3 in size
  • be drawn to a standard metric scale
  • have a title
  • include a scale bar
  • have a drawing number

Submitted drawings should show all scaled dimensions, including those to boundaries. Plans must not say ‘Do not scale’.

For ‘major’ applications: one of the three copies must be A3 size


Applications via the Planning Portal (electronic submissions)

When submitting applications via the Planning Portal files should:

  • be PDF format
  • have a file name
  • be not larger than 20MB
  • include a scale bar

For ‘major’ applications: three CD-ROMs each containing all documents should also be included

If plans and documents are in colour and larger than A3 size, paper copies must also be submitted.
