Barnet's charter for a safer borough

Why this charter matters
In Barnet, over 250 residents came together to shape this charter as an open commitment to foster respect and safety in our borough. Whether you're an individual, a business, a school, or a community group, signing the charter means standing up for a culture where everyone feels safe.
Our Four Principles
Awareness
Commitment to learning about the impact of VAWG and sharing that knowledge with others. This includes understanding how everyday behaviours, language, and attitudes can contribute to harm and how we can change that.
Accountability
Responsibility for our own actions and challenge harmful behaviours when we see them. This means reflecting on our words, choices, and the environments we help shape.
Challenge
Speak out against sexism, harassment, and harmful stereotypes. By challenging inappropriate behaviour, we help create safer spaces for everyone.
Advocacy
We encourage others to join us. Change is collective. By promoting the charter and its values, we build a movement in Barnet.
