Colindale station improvements
Skip to:
Colindale station will have step-free access and a spacious new ticket hall. Work started in January 2024 and is expected to complete by autumn 2025. The station has now reopened in a temporary state while work continues on the new ticket hall.
What we're doing
An upgraded Northern line station will be built for Colindale with improvements to include:
- spacious new ticket hall, large enough to accommodate the expected increase in passenger numbers
- lift for step-free access from the street to platform level
- a new building, which will be an important gateway to the wider Colindale area
- an accessible toilet with infant changing facility
- infrastructure improvements and more cycle parking
- a new in-station retail space
- a sustainable blue-and-green roof drainage system with wild plants
The station car park has been closed permanently to enable construction. Blue badge parking spaces have been relocated in Charcot Road.
Site traffic to the works compounds - on the plaza next to the station and in the station carpark - will be supervised by trained banksmen but we ask pedestrians to take extra care during such times.
How the work is funded
The scheme is funded by the Government's Levelling Up Fund as well as contributions from Barnet Council, local developers and TfL.
Phase 1
Colindale Tube Station reopened in a temporary state and resumed service on the afternoon of 20th December 2024 following the completion of the first phase of its major upgrade. After a six-month closure, the first phase of the upgrade is complete. This included removing the old canopy and staircases and installing new staircases.
Now the station is reopened, and until the new ticket hall is complete:
- Passengers can reach the Northern line platforms through a temporary one-way system via the existing ticket hall and newly installed staircases, while the rest of the station remains under construction.
- Ticket gates have been removed. Customers using Contactless or Oyster cards must touch in and out using ticket validators located in the ticket hall. Ticket machines remain operational for top-ups and paper ticket purchases.
- Due to the temporary layout, peak time crowding may occur during peak hours (07:00-09:00 and 17:00-19:00).
- Passengers are encouraged to use TfL’s real-time travel tools, including TfL Go and TfL Journey Planner, as information screens are currently unavailable in the ticket hall and on platforms.
