Our growth strategy: West of the borough
Skip to:
Character
The west of the borough contains most of Barnet’s growth and development opportunities, including nearly two thirds of planned housing delivery and most new jobs growth.
Some of the highest levels of deprivation in the borough are found in the west, but it benefits from being well-connected by road, tube and rail and this connectivity is set to improve with the opening of the new Brent Cross West station, alongside improved opportunities for walking and cycling.
Growth
The west of the borough will see significant development investment through to 2030.
Place-making will be critical to the success of the planned housing growth, with new job opportunities and investment in social and physical infrastructure essential to creating new healthy urban neighbourhoods.
Already home to several visitor destinations including the RAF Museum, Middlesex University and Brent Cross, the area could be enhanced further with new retail, commercial, community and leisure opportunities.
Our priorities for growth in the west of the borough
A5 corridor study
Work with neighbouring boroughs to review required improvements to transport infrastructure, building heights and design, and opportunities for development.
West London Orbital
Support delivery of the West London Orbital railway.
Visitor destinations study
Explore the potential for leisure and cultural destinations, and our role in promoting their development.
Co-ordinate development across Colindale
Continue to co-ordinate development across Colindale, working with Notting Hill Genesis and The Barnet Group to deliver estate regeneration at Grahame Park alongside the Greater London Authority and Transport for London for a comprehensive approach at Colindale underground station.
Deliver regeneration at Brent Cross
Deliver regeneration at Brent Cross, including the Brent Cross Thameslink station, construction at Brent Cross, and bring forward investment at Brent Cross North.
