Community grants to help Barnet reach Net Zero

Community conscious groups are receiving nearly £30,000 to reduce waste in Barnet Council’s drive to become net zero as a council by 2030 and as a borough by 2042. The funding is being distributed by the North London Waste Authority. In Barnet, the grants are being split between £5,000 for Friern Barnet Community Library, £7,200 for Living Way Ministries, and £15,000 for Edible London.

Barnet Council has launched a new Community Energy Fund to support innovative, locally led projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions as part of the council’s commitment to transform Barnet into a Net Zero borough by 2042. The £50,000 fund will help Barnet-based organisations develop and run schemes to promote use of renewable energies, lower energy usage and cut domestic fuel bills.

Councillor Danny Rich sworn in as 61st Mayor of Barnet

Councillor Danny Rich has become the 61st Mayor of Barnet, after being officially sworn in during the Annual Council Meeting held on Tuesday 20 May at Hendon Town Hall. Councillor Danny Rich takes over from the borough’s previous Mayor, Councillor Tony Vourou. The Mayoress will be his wife, Ms Laura Lassman. Councillor Rich has selected Unitas Youth Zone and the Jewish Deaf Association as his chosen charities for his Mayoral term.
Thanks to the ongoing sacrifices that we have all made to prevent the spread of infection, and the cautious approach to reopening, we can now regain more freedoms.

"This afternoon’s events are deeply disturbing, but I am glad to say that the Metropolitan Police are carrying out an investigation to identify those responsible for this vile behaviour as quickly as possible. They will also be carrying out additional patrols.
“I’m proud that Barnet is supporting Clean Air Day again today. Clean air improves the length and quality of lives, and is one of the key ways that we can ensure that we remain a clean, green borough. "We are building a borough fit for the future, equipped with green infrastructure. I’m thrilled that we are building close to 100 electric vehicle lamppost charging points just this month across Barnet.
The Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Policy was agreed by the council’s Policy and Resources Committee on Wednesday 16 June and provides an overall vision and action plan for the next four years which aims to ensure the borough is a place which is fair, inclusive and safe for all its communities.

Barnet Council and the NCL CCG invite everyone aged 18 and over to get their COVID-19 vaccine on a special vaccination bus which will make stops in Barnet throughout the summer. A free shuttle bus is also operating between Oaklodge Medical Centre in Edgware and StoneX Stadium, taking people on a round trip to get their jab.
