The Arts Depot joins Barnet’s movement to become a Dementia Friendly Community The Arts Depot in North Finchley has recently become another venue in Barnet accredited by the London Mayor Dementia Friendly Venues Charter as a Dementia Friendly Venue.
Extremely hot weather is expected to develop on Sunday and peak on Monday and Tuesday (18 & 19 July). A red extreme heat warning has been issued by the Met Office, meaning temperatures could hit 40C (104F). The heat can affect anyone, but some people run a greater risk of serious harm. Remember to think of those who may be more at risk from the effects of heat, including older people, babies and young children, and people with underlying health conditions.
It’s Mental Health Awareness Week (9-13 May) and this year’s theme is all about helping others out of loneliness. We encourage you to support others who might be feeling lonely.
Barnet's Local Elections are this Thursday 5 May

This Thursday 5 May, voters in Barnet will go to the polls in the Local Elections to elect 63 councillors across 24 wards. Voters will receive one ballot paper when they go to vote. Barnet’s recent ward boundary changes mean that the borough is now made up of nine 2-councillor wards and fifteen 3-councillor wards, based on the number of electors that they contain. Therefore, depending on which ward they live in, voters will vote for either 2 or 3 councillors to represent them.

Polling stations are open 7am-10pm today - don't forget to vote! Today, Thursday 6 May, around 6.1 million registered Londoners will go to the polls to elect a new Mayor of London and 25 London Assembly Members. In Barnet, two by-elections will also take place on the same day. Registered voters in Edgware and East Barnet will elect one new councillor in each ward.

Twelve weeks on from the start of lockdown, Barnet Council is launching a campaign today (15th June) to encourage everyone in the borough to take a moment to say ‘thank you’ to someone who has helped them through the Covid-19 crisis. The campaign recognises Barnet’s community, faith and voluntary sector as well as local businesses and residents who have played a vital role in response to the crisis, adapting their services and giving their time to provide essential support to those who need it most.
Barnet Council launches new funding round to support local projects through Crowdfund Barnet

Barnet Council has launched a new funding round as part of its crowdfunding initiative Crowdfund Barnet - Home (spacehive.com), to support community-led ideas.
Household Notification Letters will be arriving with you in the post in the coming week. Check your letter to make sure you are registered to vote. You only need to register once, you don’t need to register separately for every election. However, if you have moved home (even between two addresses in Barnet), you must register again at your new address. Registering to vote is quick and easy, visit: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
Barnet to spend £4.65m installing 500 electric vehicle charge points following £3.5M government grant

Barnet Council has secured over £3.5m in grant funding to deliver 500 on-street electric vehicle charge points by November 2022. Barnet currently has the second highest rate of electric car ownership in London and the grant from the Office of Zero Emissions Vehicles (OZEV) will see the charge points installed in 34 of Barnet’s residential streets by November 2022.
