Net zero carbon council

Join us on our journey to become one of London’s most sustainable boroughs.

In Barnet, we’re on an ambitious journey to tackle climate change and protect biodiversity across the borough. Through our BarNET ZERO initiative, we aim to deliver a net zero council by 2030 and a net zero borough by 2042 at the latest.

We can only achieve this by working together, with local people, communities and businesses.

In May 2022, we declared a climate and biodiversity emergency, highlighting the urgency of these commitments. As a result, we launched BarNET ZERO in 2023, a communications initiative to tell Barnet’s story and invite everyone to join us on this journey.

Our award winning BarNET ZERO campaign has gained widespread recognition for its efforts toward sustainability, further highlighting the importance of our collective efforts.
