Planning Policy privacy notice

The Planning Policy Team is responsible for preparing the council’s statutory Development Plan to guide growth and change in the Borough over the next 15 years as well as provide the policy basis for the determination of planning applications.

Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) offer more detailed technical guidance on policies or proposals. When preparing new SPDs, public consultation will occur in accordance with relevant legislation. When consultations occur they will appear on our Barnet Engage page.

In preparing planning policy documents, consultation is undertaken with statutory and non-statutory consultees and we hold information about those we consult with. Representations received are used to shape the detail of planning policy documents. We will publish your name and a summary of comments received from the public consultation in a Consultation Statement, once consultation ends.

For statutory consultations we are required to identify and contact people who would be relevant consultees, which may be people who have contacted the council previously, or those who are known to represent relevant groups, such as neighbourhood associations. You can ask to be removed from our consultation mailing lists, but any comments made during a consultation will be kept for the periods listed below.

We process your personal data using the AI Tools to improve the efficiency, quality, and speed of our business processes when summarising consultation responses.  A lot of these processes are already happening manually. Using AI to automate these processes allows council resources to be used where they are needed most.

We do not use AI to make automated decisions. There is always a human intervention to review and approve any outputs from the AI tools. Decisions are not made solely by automated means.
