This Barnet Climate Action Month, we are highlighting Barnet’s ambitions achieve a more green, active and healthier borough by promoting opportunities to go walking in Barnet.
Along with health benefits, walking creates an opportunity to spend time in Barnet's many parks and open spaces which are an important part of what makes Barnet a green and family friendly borough. Looking after our green spaces is a vital part of achieving Barnet's sustainability and Net Zero ambitions.
Parks and open spaces play a major role in limiting the impacts of climate change: they reduce flood risk caused by extreme weather events, moderate temperatures (parks are cooler than streets), absorb pollution keeping our air clean and provide habitats for birds, insects, plants, and other wildlife.
Walking instead of driving also helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and spending time in nature can increase people's appreciation for the environment.
