Freedom of Information Request

EIR: Misconnections

Received: 4 November 2024

This is an EIR under the 2004 Freedom of Information Act.I am seeking information about misconnected buildings in the River Brent catchment. We have heard that there are three known 'blocks' comprising in each case several residences, which are wholly discharging their foul sewage directly into the River Brent. This information has come from Thames Water who have been conducting investigations into polluting outfalls on the Brent. Here are the questions we would like answered:1 - Is Barnet aware of these cases, which should have been handed over by Thames Water's SWOP team?2 - When did Barnet become aware of these cases?3 - Can some indication of location be given (a partial postcode for example) for each building?4 - What action has Barnet taken to bring an end to this pollution?5 - What is Barnet's understanding of who was responsible for signing off the buildings in question, at the time of their construction?6 - Were the buildings visited by inspectors as part of building control, and if so when and from which organisation?7 - Does Thames Water have a regulatory role in the sewerage construction of new developments, or merely an advisory role?8 - Since in all three cases the pollution is ongoing, what is Barnet's plan to bring this to an end?
