Freedom of Information Request

Mays Lane and surrounding roads

Received: 17 June 2025

It is disappointing that we haven't had a reply to our request to officers, or a response to the email below, for a copy of the decision report and risk assessment report for the works carried out on a long stretch of of Mays Lane and surrounding roads and in particular the area where the council has removed the steel bollard and width restriction near the junction with Manor Road. This should include the names of the cabinet officers or named delegated officers who approved them. As you work for the residents of Barnet, to be advised by an officer that we need to use a FOI request indicates a lack of transparency which is somewhat concerning and it begs the question - what is there to hide?Incidentally, in relation to what we believe is a dangerous scheme, I (Ann) witnessed the aftermath of a traffic accident at that point on Saturday 7 June. A DPD van was overtaking a parked van at high speed and crashed into it. This would not have happened if the bollards/width restriction had not been removed. I go for a walk in the area several days a week and it is now dangerous crossing in this area. Urgent remedial action is required please before it's a pedestrian who is crashed into and killed. Those of us who walked the length of the works which caused concerns with the highways officers were amazed that none of the team were aware of the developments at the Islamic Centre and potential traveller site at the far end of the works which have directly affected traffic on Mays Lane. There is an ongoing appeal hearing re the traveller site and somebody in the council must be aware of the problems caused by the huge numbers of cars accessing the Islamic Centre as there have been multiple call outs to the council regarding noise issues at the centre. A word of thanks for putting in the double yellow lines at Partridge Close, where people visiting the Centre have been parking on the verges and blocking drivers' views for exiting the Close, after we pointed this out during our site walk. Residents had requested this during the consultation. Better late than never. It just shows that it is possible to respond promptly when there's a will. We are disappointed that all the comments made over a long period of time about the Mays Lane/Manor Road junction area have not been taken into account. We've included our previous email below for information for those of you who weren't included before. We wish you to take this email as a formal FOI request. We hope there won't be any undue delays in providing the information.
