Formal Request for Evidence and Accountability Regarding Street Maintenance Works
Received: 4 August 2025
I am writing to formally raise serious concerns regarding the purported street cleaning, road surface marking, and paving works allegedly undertaken in my area. The information provided in your recent correspondence is both factually inaccurate and unsupported by any verifiable evidence.Firstly, your assertion that street cleaning has taken place is categorically incorrect. I, along with other residents, have personally undertaken the clearing of weeds and sweeping of the street due to the absence of any council action. I request, under the relevant provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004, that you provide documentary evidence confirming:*The exact dates and times the street cleaning was carried out;*The contractor(s) responsible;*Any photographic or operational reports validating that such work was performed. In the absence of such evidence, I expect an immediate correction to your records and an explanation as to why incorrect information has been issued to residents.Secondly, the application of yellow line markings to a structurally degraded and visibly crumbling road surface is unacceptable and suggests a negligent use of public funds. The roads in question have not been resurfaced for over five decades. It is common knowledge that line painting on an unstable or deteriorated substrate is ineffective and fails to meet any reasonable standard of durability or public safety.I therefore require the following:1.A copy of the pre-works site survey or technical assessment confirming the suitability of the surface for line marking;2.The name and qualifications of the person(s) who approved the surface as appropriate;3.If no such assessment was conducted, an explanation as to why the works were approved regardless, and a full breakdown of the cost implications for any subsequent reapplication of markings.Thirdly, with respect to the installation of paving stones, I request documentation or engineering confirmation that these works were carried out to the applicable regulatory and industry standards. In the absence of such documentation, I reserve the right to commission an independent assessment and pursue cost recovery where applicable. Please treat this correspondence as a formal request for information and action. If a full response, including the requested evidence, is not received within 14 days of the date of this letter, I will be escalating this matter to the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman and will consider seeking legal advice regarding the misallocation of public funds and failure to discharge statutory duties.
