Freedom of Information Request

Public bin locations

Received: 15 September 2025

A digital list, database, or map showing the locations of all public litter bins and recycling bins maintained by or on behalf of the council (excluding household bins). Please provide the information in the electronic format you already hold (e.g., Excel, CSV, shapefile, GIS data, or depot spreadsheets). If a full wide list is not reasonably available, please provide the information broken down by the level at which it is already held (e.g., by ward, district, or depot). If precise geographic coordinates are not recorded, please provide any available location descriptors (such as street names, park names, or nearest landmarks).Re-use request (RPSI 2015)Please also treat this as a formal request for re-use of the disclosed dataset under the Re-use of Public Sector Information Regulations 2015 (RPSI).Purpose of re-useI am developing a free public app and website to help residents and visitors find nearby litter and recycling bins. The app will use factual fields (e.g., coordinates, Eastings/Northings, or simple location descriptions) to display the bins on a map. I will not republish your raw spreadsheet; the data will be converted to JSON to power the map, with values displayed as latitude/longitude.Licensing and attributionIn line with ICO guidance on RPSI, please license this dataset under the Open Government Licence v3.0 (OGL). If you have a preferred attribution statement, please provide it; otherwise I will use:© [Council], [Year]. Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.Third-party rightsIf any fields are subject to third-party IP (for example, Ordnance Survey-derived content), please either:1) confirm the dataset meets OS's 'presumption to publish' so it can be released under OGL, or2) identify the specific product/rightsholder and provide a version that avoids third-party IP (retaining only factual coordinates and simple location descriptors).ChargesAs this is a routine dataset already disclosed under EIR, please confirm that no charge applies. Under RPSI regulation 15(1), any charge (if applicable) is limited to the marginal costs of reproduction, provision and dissemination, which are typically £0 for electronic supply.Response requirementsIf OGL cannot be granted, please provide one of the following:(a) The alternative licence terms you can offer, with the legal basis for any proposed charge; or(b) A formal RPSI refusal notice, including reasons and details of my right of appeal to the ICO.
