Barnet marks Armed Forces Week
The London Borough of Barnet marked Armed Forces Week with a curry reception last night (25 June), in partnership with the RAF Museum, to pay tribute to the Armed Forces, Reservists, Cadets Services, veterans, and their families in the borough.
The event was attended by The Worshipful Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Danny Rich, the Representative Deputy Lieutenant, Martin Russell, CEO of the RAF Museum, Maggie Appleton MBE and other dignitaries and civic guests.
The annual ceremony was one of many taking place across the country this week to recognise those currently serving and those who have served.
The Worshipful Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Danny Rich, said: βI am delighted that we have been able to partner with the RAF Museum for this occasion. Barnet has always had a very close connection to the Armed Forces, and this day is an opportunity for us to recognise that connection, pay tribute and thank them for their bravery and dedication.β
The Barnet Band provided music during the reception, whilst guests enjoyed food and drinks under the Lancaster Bomber inside the museum.
CEO of the RAF Museum, Maggie Appleton MBE, said: βIt was an honour to host this special event at the RAF Museum as part of Armed Forces Week. We are proud to stand with the London Borough of Barnet in paying tribute to the incredible commitment and sacrifices of our Armed Forces community, past, present, and future. This partnership reflects our shared mission to remember, respect and inspire through the stories of those who serve.β
The Armed Forces Flag was also raised on Monday (23 June) at Hendon Town Hall and the councils Colindale Offices.
