Menorah lighting in Barnet
Barnet Council will host a festive Chanukah Menorah Lighting Ceremony at Hendon Town Hall on Monday, 30 December, at 5:30 PM.
The event has been organised with Barnet Council and Hendon House Chabad and will feature the lighting of the menorah and welcoming the community to celebrate the Festival of Lights together.
As well as being attended by community members it will be led by Rabbi Gershon Overlander and with the Deputy Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Rabbi Danny Rich.
The Deputy Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Rabbi Danny Rich, said:
“Festive events are an opportunity to teach each other and to bring our diverse community together to celebrate shared values. Chanukah (which has personal religious significance to me) recalls the universal possibility of bringing light to darkness and freedom in the face of oppression.”
Rabbi Gershon Overlander said:
“The festival of Chanukah symbolizes the message that light overcomes darkness, freedom overwhelms tyranny and goodness will ultimately overshadow evil. The lighting of the Menorah in public places invites all those who cherish religious liberty & freedom in this land of freedom to be inspired by these timeless messages of hope.”
This free event is open to all. Join us for an evening of warmth, joy, and celebration at Hendon Town Hall, The Burroughs, NW4 4AX.
