Scouts from the 6th Friern Barnet Group spent the afternoon of World Cleanup Day tidying at Friern Bridge Open Space with gloves, litter-pickers and bags supplied by Barnet Council.

One of the Scout parents, who works for Friends of the Earth, said a few words to set the scene regarding pollution, sustainability and recycling. Then coffee cups, fast-food trays, drinks cans and plastic bottles all went into the rubbish bags. After a couple of hours of hard work during the event on Saturday 21 September the Scouts had collected an impressive amount of litter.
Group Scout Leader Andrew Rush said: “It was a really practical way for them to help the local community. It showed how we can all take responsibility and make a positive difference to the environment for the future.”
