The evaluation, which is being carried out by an independent organisation called Activist Group, is intended to assess a number of changes made to Barnet’s library service in 2016, and to recommend any further adaptions and improvements which will help enhance services in the future.

As part of the evaluation, residents will have the opportunity to take part in an online questionnaire, as well as the option to attend two public events organised by Activist Group.

Residents have until 7 November 2019 to complete the questionnaire.

The evaluation will help the council assess the remodelling of library services which took place in 2016 following consultation with residents.

The remodelled service saw all of the borough’s 14 libraries remain open, changes made to opening hours and staffing, the introduction of self-service opening technology, reconfiguration to the layout of each library, and the introduction of four partnership libraries.

Councillor Reuben Thompstone, Chairman of the Community Leadership and Libraries Committee, said: “Following the remodelling of our library service which began in 2016, it is very important that we look carefully at how the current service is meeting the needs of people who live and work in Barnet.

“Feedback gathered as part of this independent evaluation will play an important role in assessing these changes, and in whether there is anything else we can do to enhance services. I would like to encourage as many people as possible to take the time to take part in the questionnaire or to attend one of the public events.”
