Green spaces, biodiversity and nature
Join us on our journey to become one of London’s most sustainable boroughs.
Barnet is a biodiverse borough, with one third of our total area classified as green space. We have a range of different habitats, including ancient woodland, traditional hay meadow and watercourses that provide important habitats across the borough.
However, our environment, and the variety of wildlife that inhabits it, is affected by our changing climate, from more frequent heatwaves and flash floods, to the loss of critical biodiversity that enriches and supports our place.
Our parks, woodlands and open spaces are more than just places to relax and enjoy nature, they are vital in helping us adapt to these climate changes. They also play an essential role in cooling our streets, preventing flooding and providing a home for wildlife.
By prioritising the protection of our natural spaces, we can keep Barnet green for future generations to come.
