Five outsourced council services expected to return in-house following Capita contracts expiry

Recommendations for the future delivery of some services currently outsourced by Barnet Council to Capita are expected to be confirmed by the council’s Financial Performance and Contracts Committee, which will meet on 23 November. These proposals will then be decided by the Policy and Resources (P&R) Committee on 9 December.

New provider appointed for Barnet’s Healthy Child Programme

The decision follows a second tendering process after the contract was first offered to the Whittington Health NHS Trust in 2020. The Whittington Health NHS Trust subsequently withdraw its bid, resulting in the council needing to extend the contract with the existing provider, Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust, due to the coronavirus pandemic. The second tendering process was broadened to include both NHS and non-NHS providers.

Colindale Park reopens after council’s £1.2million regeneration

The park is set to reopen in full by mid-November with other attractions including an outdoor gym, table tennis, fixed chess tables and new fruit trees in a scenic blossom orchard. There will be wildflower areas, and a picnic area with garden tables – plus more. Additional enhancements also include new cycle and pedestrian paths, bins, benches, trees, plants and swale drainage to help rainwater leave paths to be absorbed by grass.

In the lead up to COP26, and following the government’s announcement of its Net Zero Strategy, the Leader of Barnet Council has released a statement on sustainability in Barnet.
