During the pandemic we saw a rise in residents wanting to access more services online with 70% of residents choosing to use online tools to resolve their queries rather than call. This resulted in council services having to consider how we can support all residents better remotely and inclusively.

The Resilient Schools Programme funded by Barnet Public Health is proud to showcase a Youth Realities and Pink Productions film ‘Generation Verified’. From identity to pressure for perfection, popularity, and the desire for likes, this is a short film explores young people’s experiences of the online world and how they cope with the unique generational challenges that they face.

London’s Deputy Mayor visits Barnet Council for groundbreaking pilot scheme to tackle domestic abuse

London’s Deputy Mayor Sophie Linden visited Barnet Council’s offices for an update on the council’s pioneering pilot scheme to tackle domestic abuse in the borough, along with its partners at the neighbouring councils of Brent and Enfield.

Called the ‘Culturally Integrated Family Approach’ (CIFA), the wide-reaching scheme provides tailored services that recognise differences in cultures and ethnicities to improve the support available to those experiencing domestic abuse.

Barnet Council yesterday (31 May) launched a bold new strategy to enable children and young people to influence decisions in the council. The participation strategy, called My Say Matters, was unveiled by young people at a special event at Hendon Town Hall.

Barnet Council receives £56m of government support but Leader warns of ‘tough decisions’

Barnet Council is to receive £55.7m in government support as part of its financial plans to close the council’s budget gap for the next year.

The Leader of the Council, Cllr Barry Rawlings, received notice on Thursday afternoon (20 February) of the decision by the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government that the council’s application for ‘exceptional financial support’ was granted.

‘Rogue landlord’ fined after 18 people found to be living in 3-bed house

A landlord has been ordered to pay £37,000 in fines and costs after Barnet Council inspectors found 18 tenants including children and infants, sharing a house in Edgware.

The home, in Fairmead Crescent, Edgware, originally built as a three-bedroom linked terraced house had been converted into eight bedsits and was being operated without a licence.

By-Election result – Burnt Oak ward 

The result of yesterday’s by-election in the Burnt Oak ward has been declared at Barnet Council Headquarters, in Colindale. 

The seat was won by Labour Party candidate, Charlotte Elizabeth Daus. 

This means the political composition of the Council is now 40 Labour, 19 Conservative and 3 members who are not part of a council political group (and one vacancy in Finchley Church End Ward).

The turnout for this by-election was 17.3 per cent.
