Barnet Council celebrates inspirational women and girls with awards ceremony ahead of International Women’s Day

Eleven of Barnet’s most inspiring women and girls have been recognised in a council-backed awards programme at Hendon Town Hall, Thursday, 6 March 2025.

For the second year running the awards were given out for outstanding contributions and accomplishments in the fields of business, sport, environment, and community and culture.

By-Election Result – Finchley Church End Ward

The result of yesterday’s by-election in the Finchley Church End ward was declared last night (Thursday 6 March) at Barnet Council Headquarters, in Colindale. 

The seat was won by Josh Mastin-Lee, Conservative Party Candidate.   

Barnet Council adopts new ‘Local Plan’ to shape growth and change up to 2036

Barnet Council has adopted its new Local Plan at a Full Council meeting this week (4 March), marking a significant milestone in the Borough's development strategy. The comprehensive Local Plan will guide growth and development across Barnet up to 2036, replacing the previous Local Plan from 2012.

Council sets budget and new Council Tax rate

Barnet Council’s proposed budget for the financial year 2025-26 was approved last night (4 March) at a meeting of Full Council. The council is legally required to set a balanced budget, and this year’s budget includes a general Council Tax increase of 2.98% plus an Adult Social Care precept increase of 2%. Barnet continues to maintain a Council Tax lower than any neighbouring boroughs.
