The Barnet Community Response Fund awards £50,000 to local organisations

The Barnet Community Response Fund has awarded £50,000 to 28 of Barnet’s local voluntary, community and faith organisations, with grants of up to £2000 each.

Set up in partnership with Barnet Together and Barnet Council, the Barnet Community Response Fund enables local organisations to continue providing frontline support to those most in need.

Armed Forces Day 2020

Barnet was due to mark the occasion with a ceremony held at the RAF Museum, Hendon, but the current situation has led to the event being cancelled. 

It was to have been attended by the Worshipful the Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Caroline Stock, as well as army reservists, cadets, ex-servicemen and women, and was to have concluded with a fly-past by a Lancaster bomber from the RAF’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

National School Sport Week at Home: Ensure no child misses out

The campaign is hosted by Youth Sport Trust who have teamed up with Sky Sports to support Youth Sport’s Trust’s #StayHomeStayActive campaign which has been supporting schools, parents and young people with daily free resources to get young people moving and enjoying the PE curriculum while at home.

Crowdfund Barnet offers help during COVID-19 crisis

Crowdfunding offers a way to raise funds rapidly by connecting people with local causes. Anyone can back a campaign with as little as £2 and can do so safely online.

Barnet’s residents are being called on to recognise the work of the borough’s estimated 32,256 unpaid carers of all ages during this week’s annual Carers Week.

New Barnet Covid-19 bereavement support and counselling service

The service will be delivered through Community Barnet and Mind in Barnet. Residents will be able to access social and practical support and information as well as accessing immediate emotional support and bereavement counselling. The bereavement support and counselling service is available to adults who live, work or study in Barnet and are struggling with bereavement.

At the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, Barnet Council and Volunteering Barnet, part of the Barnet Together partnership, set up Barnet’s Community Response Volunteer platform to help voluntary groups recruit volunteers, enable residents to volunteer safely and help Barnet residents and communities to work together and support each other during the COVID-19 crisis.

Barnet’s faith and community leaders unite in message of community cohesion

Following a very busy period of religious festivals where families and communities throughout Barnet have sacrificed coming together to observe religious customs and celebrations due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The video provides encouragement and motivation to Barnet’s faith communities, fellow residents and leaders to continue working together to stay safe during this time.
