The council will be joining thousands of national and local organisations taking part in Giving Tuesday, which happens each year, just after the popular shopping days of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Barnet Council and the Environment Agency have crushed a Ford Transit tipper truck that was used by flytippers to dump huge amounts of rubbish in the otherwise idyllic suburban village of Totteridge.

The mountain of trash was discovered on private land. The vehicle used in the flytipping was seized by the Environment Agency on Thursday 8 August after a multi-agency operation that included the Met Police and Barnet Council.

The land-owner was left to foot the bill to clear the rubbish that the flytippers had left behind.

The evaluation, which is being carried out by an independent organisation called Activist Group, is intended to assess a number of changes made to Barnet’s library service in 2016, and to recommend any further adaptions and improvements which will help enhance services in the future.

The successful bid for £318,000 of funding will enable the charity to mentor young people aged 10-14 whose siblings are known to the youth justice system.
