Barnet residents have higher levels of overall satisfaction with their council than both the national and the London averages, according to the latest Adults Residents’ Perception Survey. The survey results, taken from winter 2023/24, found 65% of residents were satisfied with Barnet Council – in line with the last survey, which was taken in 2021/22. This beats both the London average (56%) and the national average (53%), both of which have declined since 2021/22.
Barnet Council partners with cosmetics brand in campaign tackling Violence Against Women and Girls

Barnet Council has teamed up with national cosmetics brand Barry M in a new campaign tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG), The campaign is aimed at Gen Z, as women and girls aged 16-24 are more likely to be victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault, rape and stalking crimes than any other age group.
Barnet Council hosted Burnt Oak’s Car-Free Day on Saturday 21 September where the streets came alive with activities focused on sustainability and improving air quality. The event, part of the Council’s ongoing Burnt Oak town centre improvements project, highlighted the importance of reimagining public spaces and promoting sustainable travel.
A crew of Barnet refuse workers had a narrow escape recently, as shocking film footage has emerged of a huge explosion as a bin is loaded into a refuse truck. The explosion was cause by combustible items such gas canisters or bottles, batteries or aerosols being wrongly placed into a residential bin, which when crushed by the lorry’s impactor caused the bin, and other debris to be fired out into the street.
Barnet Council is pleased to announce the launch of a new healthy weight service for adolescents, in partnership with DDM’s Gro Health platform. This new service is designed specifically to support young people aged 14-19 in managing their weight, improving physical and mental health, and developing the skills needed for long-term health and wellbeing.
Ninety-five percent of child car seats checked in Barnet found to be incorrectly fitted

Recent car seat safety checks in Barnet have revealed that 95% of child car seats were installed incorrectly after 45 seats were checked, with a total of 100 errors. These findings come following free car seat checking sessions organised across Barnet to help residents identify and avoid common car seat errors, as part of a partnership between Barnet Council and Good Egg Safety.
Barnet woman fined £16k and sentenced to community order for selling toxic skin-lightening products

A woman has been given a 12-month community order and a fine of £16,814 after being caught selling toxic skin-lightening products that are banned in the UK. Ofure Patience Ehizode admitted selling products containing dangerous chemicals known to cause serious health problems through her business EllaGold Ltd.

Barnet Council supports opportunity to find new sites for housing as part of GLA initiative

Barnet Council is publicising an information gathering exercise being led by The Greater London Authority (GLA) on identifying places where new housing could be built. This will form part of what is known as a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) in the LAND4LDN project as part of the new London Plan to meet the needs of a growing population in our capital city.
