Barnet Council sows seeds of innovation with Interactive Tree Portal

Barnet Council has launched its interactive tree portal, a significant marker in the council’s ambition to become a net zero council by 2030 and a net zero borough by 2042.

The portal, which is now live, has an interactive map, allowing unprecedented access to information about all the trees in Barnet on public land. The map also allows residents to submit a tree enquiry for the council to investigate.

Barnet Council to tackle potholes as part of £8million additional investment in road maintenance

A further £8million will be spent on road maintenance over the next two years to help deal with potholes and the maintenance of highways, as Cllrs voted it through at Barnet Council’s Cabinet meeting last night, 18 July 2023.

The new investment is in response to the 2022/23 winter period when the number of potholes reported jumped almost 95% to 3699 compared to the previous winter period which saw 1896 reported for repair.

Barnet Council celebrates South Asian Heritage Month with flag raising event

The Mayor of Barnet marked the start of South Asian Heritage Month by hosting a flag-raising event, that was attended by Cllrs, council officers and members of Barnet’s South Asian community.

The event, held at Hendon Town Hall today, Tuesday 18 July, was the start of a month-long calendar of events celebrating South Asian heritage and culture.

Opening the event, the worshipful Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Nagus Narenthira, said:

Barnet Council Launches new four-year plan to improve young people’s lives

Barnet Council’s new four-year strategy aimed at improving the lives of children and young people in the borough was launched at the Full Council Meeting at Hendon Town Hall, on Tuesday 11 July 2023.

The event was attended by young people from Barnet Youth Assembly, who opened the meeting and helped announce the Children and Young People Plan.

Barnet Council Announces Business Improvement District for Edgware

Barnet Council has supported the borough’s first Business Improvement District (BID) in Edgware following a favourable vote from local businesses in a recent ballot. The BID aims to attract investment of up to £800,000 during the initial five-year term.

Over the past year, the BID steering group, consisting of local businesses, TfL, Ballymore, and Barnet Council, has conducted extensive consultations to understand the priorities of businesses in Edgware.
